Information for Patients and Physicians

Solid tumors encompass a range of cancer types that are named for the type of cells that form them, such as ovarian, breast, pancreas and lung. Renal cell carcinoma forms in the kidney. It is the most common type of kidney cancer in adults, representing approximately 90 percent of cases. The American Cancer Society estimates that there will be more than 58,000 new cases of kidney cancer in the United States during 2010, and that about 13,000 people will die from the disease.

Pancreatic cancer is a fast-growing and difficult to detect form of cancer that affects the pancreas. According to the American Cancer Society, the annual incidence of pancreatic cancer is estimated to be greater than 43,000 cases, and more than 36,000 people are expected to die from the disease in 2010.
